In 2007, we introduced the Young Musicians Partnership — a program designed to link congregations with the Lutheran Music Program to financially support student attendance at the Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival.
How does the Young Musicians Partnership work?
- Congregation seeds a local scholarship of at least $500 for a student(s) to attend LSM.
- Congregation enrolls in the Young Musicians Partnership.
- LSM responds with member benefits such as:
- A 10% student tuition discount for all member youth
- A 33% LSM match to your church’s scholarship (LSM will provide matching funds to a maximum of $500)
- Direct access to local LSM musicians for an event in your area
- Marketing tools for you to use on your website, in church bulletins, and in congregational newsletters

Hoffman, lead pastor at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church in Seattle (whose congregation is a Young Musicians Partnership member) recognizes the benefit of joining forces in mutual self-interest. "It has been wonderful to share the good news of all that Lutheran Music Program has to offer. But more wonderful is the gift that those returning from LSM bring to the life and ministry of our parish. Their love of Evening Prayer and their competent leadership of it and other liturgies, their increased skill and confidence with their voice or instrument, and their passion about the Church's music and liturgy — these strengthen our congregation quite literally 'at the grass roots.'"
We know that scholarships encourage student attendance, support families, enrich congregational ministry, and strengthen the Academy & Festival. By leveraging our resources together, we can do even more to cultivate future musicians for the church.
Many churches hold fund raisers or special concerts to collect funds for their scholarships. Others provide for the scholarship through their annual budgets. We can provide you with many tools for scholarship fundraising and can connect you to a network of Partnership member congregations to find and share ideas.
