ALCM Joins LSM 2024

The Association of Lutheran Church Musicians will hold a music and worship conference in conjunction with LSM 2024 at Valparaiso University. The conference, overlapping with LSM week 4, will bring together hundreds of church musicians from across the country for several days of learning, fellowship, and shared musical experiences.

This year's conference promises to be particularly special, culminating with a joint presentation of J.S. Bach's St. John Passion, in celebration of the 300th anniversary of its premiere in 1724. Dr. Christopher Cock, Director of the Valparaiso University Bach Institute from 2001-22, as well as the LSM Festival Choir Director during the 1995-97, 1999-2000, and 2006 seasons, will conduct the performance. St. John Passion is considered one of Bach's greatest masterpieces and will be a powerful experience for all in attendance.

To prepare for the presentation of the work, the LSM community will regularly sing chorale harmonizations from the St. John Passion throughout the summer program. The conference will provide an excellent opportunity for ALCM members to immerse themselves in the LSM community and learn from several LSM faculty members who will lead workshops during the conference.

This year’s ALCM conference theme, “From Generation to Generation: Ponder Anew,” highlights this unique occasion for LSM students to learn and perform alongside seasoned church musicians and for conference attendees to connect with the next generation of musicians. This promises to be a wonderful experience for everyone involved, and we hope you can join us for this inspiring collaboration.
